Far Country Art Center is located in western Virginia, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our residency programs run year round with sessions in the fall, winter, spring and summer.

We strive to first remove entry barriers into accessible retreat environments for emerging, established, and marginalized artists. Our home is humble but vibrant; we believe that only after nurturing a truly inclusive community, all artists at their various career stages can grow together.

Our intention is to offer a safe and inclusive space for all. We open our home seeking to ensure that everyone has access to a nurturing environment to express their art irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, economic, or other status.

STANDARD PROGRAMS

Studio / Research

In consultation with staff, artists will be given access to studio space suited to their practice. We encourage artists to experiment with new methods and will do our best to accommodate needs that arise during the residency periods. Artists are encouraged to share meals, studio space, and to collaborate with other artists present during the residency period.

> Duration: 18 Days
> Sessions: Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer

The residency offers shared living space and private studio space. Artists will have the option to work with an engineer and/or producer to create a recording during the residency period. Structured much like a traditional recording studio experience, sessions generally take place over a 10 day period. FCAC can suggest engineers from our network or artists can invite an engineer to work with.

Winter Writing or Research Retreat

Artists will be provided with a bedroom, common areas for meals, and work space.
